Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser and Federal Police President Dieter Romann in Bamberg today welcomed more than 300 police officers from all over Europe. The foreign police officers are assisting the German police during the men’s European Football Championship, EURO 2024. Almost every country whose national team is playing in the tournament has sent police observers or support officers to Germany.

The foreign officers act as a link between the German state and fans from all over Europe and can help explain German policing measures to visitors from other countries.

A formal ceremony was held in Bamberg today to hand over the official documents

• authorising the officers from other EU countries to serve as auxiliary police officers in Germany in accordance with section 64 of the Act on the Federal Police, and
• certifying that officers from non-EU countries had successfully completed the necessary orientation in Federal Police tasks.
  

580 police officers from other countries are helping to keep EURO 2024 safe

The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community is working with Germany’s federal states and municipalities and the organisers of EURO 2024 to ensure security for the men’s European Football Championship.

The Federal Police are protecting Germany’s borders, airports and railways where national teams and fans are travelling. Federal Minister Faeser has ordered checks at Germany’s borders during the tournament.

The International Police Cooperation Center (IPCC) 2024 in Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia, has been set up as the central hub for the federal and state security authorities to share information at national and international level. All of the federal security authorities are represented at the IPCC 2024, and police officers from countries participating in the tournament are working there too.

What we are doing to ensure security for EURO 2024:

• Support for the Federal Police from other European police officers
• National Security Strategy agreed with tournament organiser and government authorities
• Close cooperation with authorities in neighbouring and transit countries
• International Police Cooperation Center 2024 in Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia
• Border checks during the tournament
• Threats assessed 24/7
• Support for fan projects to prevent violence (e.g. the "Fans Welcome" programme)
