Comprehensive migration partnership
Nancy Faeser, Federal Minister of the Interior and Community, and Dr Joachim Stamp, Federal Government Special Commissioner for Migration Agreements, visited the Kingdom of Morocco in October 2023. On 23 January 2024, Dr Stamp initiated a comprehensive migration partnership between Germany and Morocco, establishing joint structures to address all of the issues related to migration between the two countries.
During her visit in October 2023, Federal Minister Faeser had paved the way towards a stronger partnership with Morocco by signing a joint declaration stating the intention of Germany and Morocco to resume cooperation in all areas of interior policy. “Our visit launched a process of renewing and intensifying our bilateral cooperation on migration and security issues,”
the federal minister said.
In its coalition agreement, the Federal Government set out comprehensive reforms intended to bring about a paradigm shift to reduce irregular migration and increase legal migration. These reforms comprise a variety of measures. One of these measures is the negotiating of migration agreements by the Federal Government Special Commissioner for Migration Agreements, Dr Joachim Stamp, which is intended to build lasting and comprehensive cooperation with migrants’ countries of origin. Alongside this approach of developing extensive migration partnerships, the responsible bodies in the federal and state governments are continuing their existing cooperation on returns with countries of origin.
