Federal Information Technology

State-of-the-art information technology (IT) is crucial for the functioning of government and public administration, for economic growth and for the development of society. In order to fulfil its tasks, the federal administration depends on efficient, secure and reliable information technology. The Federal Government spends about three billion euros a year on information technology. For this reason, coordinated management at political and strategic level is required.
This is the task of the Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology (BfIT) and the CIO Council. The newly established CIO Conference, which is composed of the CIOs of the federal ministries, provides support at operational level and regarding operational cooperation.
The common goal is to improve administrative services, promote innovation, maintain the administration’s ability to act and increase its efficiency.
