A Resilient Democracy

Germany is a strong democracy, with the free and democratic system anchored in our constitution, the Basic Law. But democracy cannot be taken for granted. Democratic values must be defended and put into practice every day. Our democracy is resilient. The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community defends democracy and works to strengthen social cohesion. We are protecting our open society and our constitutional order against threats of all kinds. Our aim is to bolster pluralist democracy and our open society, to fight prejudice, resentment and hate, and to protect the body politic against threats. That is why we have consolidated the tasks intended to keep our democracy vital and able to defend itself: these include supporting civic education, preventing extremism, promoting discourse and volunteering, fighting antisemitism and countering hybrid threats, including disinformation.
