International Cooperation in the Field of Civil Protection

Disasters do not stop at national borders This is why the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community (BMI) has international responsibilities in the field of civil protection, which result from Germany’s membership in the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), NATO and the OECD. All of these international organisations have developed strategies to improve multilateral cooperation in the event of disasters. In addition to multilateral cooperation, Germany is also involved in bilateral cooperation. The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) support partner countries in building up and implementing their own disaster management and civil protection systems.
